In 2020 I was put in a situation where if my online business didn’t work, I wasn’t going to be able to pay rent (for my already shitty, little apartment).
LONG STORY SHORT:
I had built up a wedding industry career for the past 7.5 years, but when I was diagnosed with a spine fracture that required fusion surgery, it fell apart quickly and without mercy. I was going to be out for 12 weeks with extremely limited mobility with another 6 weeks of physical therapy.
This meant that my previous position had to be filled, I needed a remote-based job, and I had 6 weeks to make it happen.
I needed to make money ASAP and even though I was applying to jobs like crazy, time was running out.
Then one day I got the idea to build a single-page website offering to do copywriting for businesses. My degree was in mass communications, I worked for wedding magazines, and I had just worked as a marketing coordinator for the past 3 years. I had a skill, and I knew that working with clients would pay out faster than getting onboarded with a whole new company.
Within 2 weeks I was paid for my first project, within 6 weeks I was matching my 9-5 paycheck, and I nearly doubled my income in the first year.
It all came down to having a rock-solid brand, a strong message, and a clear offer. Today I work full-time as a branding expert and business coach, and I help women all over the world start and scale their online businesses.
