My Go-To Email Marketing Nurture Sequence Formula

As a branding expert, I work with women-owned businesses in helping them expand their reach, sell their products and services, and position themselves as authoritative figures in their market. I write blogs for them, make social media posts, schedule LIVE streams, and most commonly, write email marketing nurture sequences.

Email marketing is one of THE HIGHEST converting marketing strategies, especially for coaches and online educators. It’s a list of people who have already said “yes” to you once, and have opted-in to hearing from you again. The trick is now to nurture the relationship to get them primed and ready to launch to. This is why we do nurture sequences. These are a series of 3-5 emails that are themed and have a specific purpose. Think of it as a mini-series. You share specific information, and by the end of the sequence, you propose an offer.

I create these for my clients weekly and I have a go-to formula that works every time.

Email #1: Introduce yourself.

This doesn’t have to be so, “Hi, I’m ….”. The idea is to simply make this email more personal and with the motivation to let the reader get to know you. Share a story, some fun facts about yourself, an experience you had that pertains to the industry you’re in. The goal of this email is to start to build trust and likability, and people like people they can relate to.

Here are some prompts to get you started:

  • Did you know that I LOVE ______?

  • Oh my gosh, you’re not going to believe what happened this week.

  • I came across this message on my feed today, and it triggered me because…

  • These are three things I do every single morning without fail.

  • Rain or shine, I WILL NOT ____.

Email #2: Value-driven topic.

Think of this as a blog post in a sense. Pick a topic that is hyper-specific to your industry and relevant to your ideal client. This acts as a little gift that is purely about building a relationship. Show them that you know what you’re talking about, and you’re sharing this super valuable information for free. It leaves them thinking about what they’ll get when they actually pay you! For this, I also recommend talking about other heavy-hitters in your field, because if you’ve niched your audience, they will pick up on these names and feel like you really understand the industry… because you do!

Here are some prompts to get you started:

  • If you’re a coach, here are 5 podcasts you need to listen to RIGHT now!

  • My sales increased massively when I changed this one thing.

  • 5 tips on how to ____.

  • This book completely changed the game for me.

Email #3: Value-driven topic when you’re the solution.

Next, we give them some super helpful amazing information again, but this time you are the solution. You want to specifically offer your free content for this email, and drive traffic to your website, podcast, blog, and social media. The goal here is to position you as the authoritative figure and you understand their struggles and needs better than anyone else.

Here are some prompts to get you started:

  • If you’re struggling with ___ then you need to listen to my podcast episode on ___.

  • Here are 3 of my blog posts regarding increasing your ____.

  • Stop doing ___, learn why in my recent YouTube LIVE stream! Here’s the replay!

  • OMG! Do you love ___ as much as I do? I recently interviewed her on my podcast and we talked all about ____! You can listen to it here!

Email #4: Social Proof.

This is when you start bringing in social proof to increase your value and credibility. Share a story about a client, share testimonials, share an interview with a client. Just bring in people that are going to talk about your work in a highly regarded way. This brings in the psychological approach of popularity. Ever notice that right when you get into a relationship people suddenly want to date you, even though all you heard were crickets when you were single? It’s like that. When other people like you, it increases your trustworthiness.

Here are some prompts to get you started:

  • I helped my client ___ achieve ____.

  • My clients are raving about my new course, here’s what they had to say!

  • I have to brag about my client ____ she just _____!

  • She tried this product and can’t stop raving about it! This is what she had to say!

Email #5 Offer.

Here we are, at the end of our nurture sequence journey. This is finally when you get to sell your amazing offer, and since you’ve done all of the work to gain trust, become an authoritative figure in your field, add credibility, and likeability your ideal clients are now warmed up and ready to buy! As you probably know your product or service inside and out, I’m going to take the prompt section to give you some advice on sales copy.

Here are some sales copy tips:

  • Focus on the transformation of the client, not just all the stuff they’re getting.

  • Show them how this will change their lives, business, etc.

  • Make it relatable. Help them see that you understand exactly what they need.
